Franklin the turtle

Characters

Franklin Turtle - Franklin is the main character of the series. Unlike most of his friends, he has an actual name, with his animal type being his last name. Franklin is a five or six-year old turtle who otherwise looks and acts like a normal kid. Although he has distinct personality, he's also something of an every-kid and at times can be friendly, happy, caring, moody, bossy, or sad. Franklin has been raised to be independent and solve problems on his own, but sometimes he still needs help from his parents, friends and teachers. Sometimes, though, he can be shy and reluctant to speak up. Franklin attends Mr. Owl's class along with the rest of his friends. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Turtle and he recently became a big-brother. His sister, Harriet Turtle, seems to be on the social development level of around three-years old in more recent episodes. Although he's sometimes bothered by her, he's happy to be a big brother and loves to play with her and teach her things. He also has a favorite stuffed-dog named Sam and his goldfish, Goldie. Franklin is voiced in most seasons by Noah Reid, who has also voiced characters in programs such as Strange Days at Blake Holsey High and Rolie Polie Olie. In the most recent special and the sixth season, Noah Reid was replaced by the equally talented Cole Caplan. Cole had previously the guest character Squirrel on Franklin in a much earlier season, voiced the character of Poppy in The Little Bear Movie and is currently starring as Tater in JoJo's Circus.

Harriet Turtle - Harriet is Franklin's younger sister and like him, she has a name other than just her species. She was born in Franklin and the Green Knight, to Franklin's great delight. Franklin was a bit worried at first about becoming a big brother. Harriet can sometimes be a bother to Franklin, but she absolutely adores him, and would never be intentionally mean to him. Harriet is a turtle that has been growing a lot in more recent stories. She's learning a lot from her big brother and not just about school things. Although Harriet can be wildly playful and also fiercely independent, she's also a good friend and is learning about how to acknowledge others' feelings. Harriet likes to run and play and has a delightful laugh that she'll often squeal when being entertained by her big brother, or engaging in a fun game such as tag. Harriet can sometimes be seen with a stuffed princess toy and generally wears a purple bow on her head. Harriet is voiced by Bryn McAuley. Bryn McAuley is probably most well known for voicing the character Caillou on the first season of the English version of Caillou and has also voiced characters on shows such as Toad Patrol, Girlstuff/Boystuff and George Shrinks

Snail: Snail is easily the smallest character of the lot and his small size and slow movements means that he sometimes can't participate in things and it takes him a long time to get places. He once said that if he missed the bus to school, it would take him a week to get there! Although Franklin usually says that Bear his best friend, Snail is quick to say that Franklin is his. Snail enjoys going for a ride on Franklin's shell, but sometimes gets a bit upset if Franklin helps him too much because there are things he likes to do on his own. Still, he'll even given Franklin advice of his own sometimes, although Franklin doesn't always listen. Snail also has big dreams and is often able to accomplish them with the help of his friends. Snail's parents have never been seen on the show, although Mrs. Snail can be seen in the book Franklin's Picture Dictionary. Some viewers think that Snail is a girl and this may be because he has a female voice actress, Kristen Bone. The multi-talented Kristen Bone has had roles such as the main character Maggie in Maggie and the Ferocious Beast and also recently appeared as the Short Girl in the box-office smash-hit Mean Girls.

Beaver: Beaver is outgoing, vocal member of Franklin's group of friends. Although her strong personality sometimes comes off as bossy, she's a good friend to everyone in the group and has a lots of bright ideas. Beaver is energetic and enjoys competition, but sometimes gets a bit upset or irked when she is outdone. She is fond of stating something she knows to be a fact and then stating "everybody knows that," although everyone's used to this and doesn't let it bother them. Beaver lives in a house built over the Woodland lake and has an underwater basement! As a beaver, she and her parents are a great help when there's something that needs chewing, or a dam to be built. Beaver, however, also chews her pencils, which it would seem she can't help. In the most recent Franklin special, Beaver has a sibling --- a little brother named Kit. Although she acted pretty down on siblings and babies in "Franklin and hte Green Knight," it can be assumed that she is a good big sister, as Kit seems to really miss her when she has to return to school. She also has a cousin named Betty who's rather more soft-spoken and shy, but still like Beaver in a lot of ways. Beaver's unique voice is provided by Leah Cudmore and it's her longest-running role and the one she's likely most known for. However, she has also recently guest-starred on episodes of Degrassi: The Next Generation, as well as shows such as Soul Food and This is Wonderland.

Rabbit: Rabbit is an energetic friend of Franklin's and his main male friend, other than Bear. Being the animal that he is, Rabbit is great at hopping and leaping. He's also a sporty type, but sometimes has problems with his long ears, unless he can turn them to his advantage. Rabbit often serves as more of a background character, but does take the spotlight every once in a while. He seems to look up to Franklin and once got in a bit of a jam when Franklin accused him of copying what he was doing. He has an older cousin named Jackrabbit who can be a bit of a rebel at times and a younger brother (apparently, only seen once) named Bunny. In Seasons 1-5, Rabbit is voiced by the wonderful Kyle Fairlie, who also provided the voice of Cub in The Little Bear Movie and co-starred as the character Adam in Peter Benchley's Amazon. In the sixth season (but not in the Back to School With Franklin special), Kyle Fairlie is replaced by Mitchell Eisner, who is also currently starring as Dragon on Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends and as Jubei in Da Boom Crew.

Skunk: Skunk isn't really part of Franklin's main group of friends and therefore doesn't appear in a lot of episodes. However, the two get along well enough and Franklin has performed some special acts of kindness before, although these acts unfortunately misfired at first. Skunk is a part of Franklin's hockey team and although she wasn't good at first, she's getting better with practice and some help from Franklin and Bear. Skunk has a little sister who is known only as Baby Skunk. Skunk is voiced by Annick Obonsawin, who also appears as Inez in Cyberchase and also provided the voice of the one-shot character Armadillo in Franklin and the Green Knight: The Movie.
